6 Benefits Of Magnesium For PCOS

Image
According to a study by Gynecology Endocrinology, women with   polycystic ovarian syndrome   (PCOS) are 19 times more likely to have a magnesium deficiency. There are a number of reasons why magnesium deficiency is so common among women with PCOS. But it’s likely to be due to some combination between poor soil concentrations of magnesium that lead to magnesium deficient foods, stress, lack of fruits and vegetables, certain medications such as birth control, and insulin resistance. To learn more about magnesium deficiency, check out my video below. Benefits Of Magnesium For PCOS What Is Magnesium? Magnesium   is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. It is naturally present in many foods, added to other food products, available as a dietary supplement, and present in some medicines. Its importance is demonstrated through its involvement as a cofactor in more than 600 enzyme systems that regulate important reactions in the body. Notable reactions with which it...

Keto Diet for PCOS

Image
The keto diet  is incredibly popular amongst the  PCOS community  currently. Many are sprouting its magical results but, there isn't anything magical about the ketogenic diet. WHAT IS THE KETO DIET? The ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake (5% of overall calorie intake) and replacing it with fat (75% of your diet comes from fats). This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called  ketosis. To ensure you're in ketosis, it's best to buy a ketone meter. This measures blood ketone levels by pricking your finger and taking a small sample of your blood. It usually takes 2-4 days to enter ketosis and so you shouldn't be jumping in and out of the diet otherwise, you aren't actually following it. KETO BENEFITS TO PCOS Keto can definitely benefit someone who has PCOS if they also have  insulin resistance.  Certain studies have shown that the keto diet may improve insulin sensitivity...

Maca For PCOS

Image
WHAT IS MACA ROOT? Maca Root For PCOS is a Peruvian plant grown in the Andes mountains that is a common ingredient in Peruvian cooking. It’s said to have an earthy, nutty, butterscotch-like flavour - yum! (if you’re into that). It belongs to the family of cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, kale, and cabbage. However, aside from its culinary uses, maca can also be processed and commercialised as a pharmaceutical because of its organic and biological nature. In fact, Peruvians have been using maca root as a medicinal tool for centuries either in the form of its natural state, maca powder, or maca capsules. Traditionally, it has been used to boost fertility, energy, stamina, and sex drive. This is because of maca’s highly nutritious content; roughly 28 grams of it contains 20 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of protein, 2 grams of fiber, 1 gram of fat, 133% of the RDI Vitamin C, 85% of the RDI copper, 23% of the RDI iron, 16% of the RDI potassium, 15% of...

The Source Of Period Issues In PCOS

Image
Period Issues in PCOS Menstrual cycle period issues are a common symptom of PCOS and I find many women haven't been truly educated on exactly what's going on. Remember that every womans PCOS will manifest differently so this will not apply to every woman. 1️. It starts with an underlying triggering issue such as insulin resistance causing high insulin levels, your adrenals being under constant stress or excess body fat tissue. 2️. This causes the female body to start producing androgens (male sex hormones) in too large of quantities, this is what's known as androgen excess. 3️. This causes a cascading hormonal imbalance between LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone). The ratio between these two hormones is vitally important for the menstrual cycle and ovulation. 4️. The end result being that the menstrual cycle is out of balance and unable to function properly, leading to irreg...
